What is the Flamingo Challenge?

Hospitals in North Florida and South Georgia treat thousands of new cancer cases each year — and breast cancer is the most common diagnosis.
The #FlamingoChallenge, a partnership between First Commerce Credit Union and the foundations that support three hospitals in the region, has raised more than $350,000 in the five years since it was launched to benefit local breast cancer patients.

Our Goal

This year, our goal is to go bigger than we have ever gone before with the #FlamingoChallenge
This unique fundraising initiative brings a flamboyant twist to Breast Cancer Awareness Month by providing flocks of pink yard flamingos and colorful yard signs to donors so they can proudly display them in front of their homes and businesses to show their support. Participants also are encouraged to take pictures of themselves with their flocks and post on social media challenging others to “join the flock.”

Keeping it Local

All money raised through the #FlamingoChallenge stays local, going to support Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s Walker Breast Program, Archbold Memorial Hospital’s Lewis Hall Singletary Archbold Cancer Center and South Georgia Medical Center’s Pearlman Cancer Center.

How to Join the Flock

Now in its fifth year, the #FlamingoChallenge is a local fundraising initiative designed to support patients who are battling breast cancer. The South Georgia and North Florida communities have raised nearly $350,000 through their generosity. That goes a long way. And this year, we think we can expand our impact!

Foundation Partners: Donate Directly

All proceeds support patients who come to TMH from throughout the region. Here are a few ways your support makes a difference: • A PET scan, which alerts doctors to areas of abnormal cell growth in the body, costs more than $1,800. Donations are used to ease the burden for patients in financial need.: • Some patients must travel long distances to Tallahassee for treatment. Community generosity provides gas cards, car rides and lodging for patients and their caregivers.: • In 2023, the TMH Foundation gave $2 million, thanks to the generosity of donors, toward the purchase of a Varian Edge Linear Accelerator for the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center. The Varian Edge offers the latest advancements in radiation, delivering radiation faster and with more precision and minimizing risks and side effects for patients.

Funds raised through the #FlamingoChallenge will go directly to Archbold’s Cancer Center Resource Fund in Thomasville, GA. Funds are used to help under-served patients in the region, particularly those at a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

Funds raised through #FlamingoChallenge will go toward the Pearlman Cancer Center Breast Cancer Fund, which directly benefits local breast cancer patients in the region, including those at a higher risk of developing breast cancer.
